About Dark Sky India Initiative

The Dark Sky India Initiative was founded at the intersection of physics, environmental science, and astronomy, in response to the growing impact of light pollution across India. Excessive and poorly designed artificial lighting not only obscures our view of the night sky, but also disrupts ecosystems and interferes with astronomical research.

Through educational videos, visual demonstrations, and outreach, the initiative raises awareness about anthropogenic light and glare, explaining how they affect nocturnal wildlife, human health, and the collection of accurate astronomical data. By translating scientific concepts into accessible content, Dark Sky India Initiative aims to foster informed conversations about responsible lighting practices.

Our Dark Sky India Initiative Mission

To educate and engage communities about the scientific and ecological consequences of light pollution, and to promote responsible, sustainable lighting practices that protect both ecosystems and astronomical observation.

Our Dark Sky India Initiative Vision

A future where dark skies are recognized as a shared natural and scientific resource—where cities, communities, and institutions adopt lighting solutions that balance human needs with environmental preservation and the pursuit of scientific discovery.
